Criteria

Students are considered for admission as transfer students when they have completed college coursework during a fall or spring semester after graduating from high school. Early/middle college or dual-enrolled students are considered freshmen. Applicants should have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) for consideration.

Factors of consideration for applicants include:

  • Cumulative college GPA (from all institutions attended)
  • Trend of recent semester grades
  • Number of college-level courses completed

Application deadlines*

Applications and all official transcripts must be delivered to WMU Admissions by these deadlines for consideration.

  • Fall semester (late August entry): August 15†
  • Spring semester (early January entry): January 1
     
  • Summer I session (early May entry): May 1
  • Summer II session (late June entry): June 15

Required materials

Admission requirements depend on the number of completed credit hours earned post-high school graduation:

24+ completed credit hours

  • Official college transcript from each institution attended

≤23 completed credit hours

  • Official college transcript from each institution attended
  • Official high school transcript from graduating high school or GED score
  • Western ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ University has adopted a test-optional policyHowever, if you graduated less than two years before you plan to enroll at WMU, you can strengthen your application by submitting self-reported ACT or SAT scores

Transcripts are considered official when they are submitted by the college/university/high school or when they are issued within 90 days and hand-delivered in a sealed envelope by the student.

When to apply

*While the dates above are deadlines, we recommend that you submit your application and required documents 6-8 months before you intend to transfer to WMU. Applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis, and students will be notified of decisions approximately two weeks after completing their application checklist.  Admitted students must make an appointment to meet with an academic advisor prior to being able to register for classes. Our transfer students are given priority for registration dates based on the number of transfer credit hours completed.

†Transfer students interested in Aviation Flight Science for fall 2024 must complete their admission application by February 15, 2024. Aviation Flight Science is fall entry only.
