ENGR 4950: Women and Leadership
STEP has created a one credit hour course for incoming first-year and transfer students entitled Women and Leadership. This topics course introduces you to successful women in science and engineering programs in the U.S. who provide powerful insight on their experiences in engineering fileds. Other presenters include a student panel comprised of current female CEAS students to discuss classes, internships, tutoring and registered student organization opportunities. When you enroll in this course, you will also be assigned a mentor who is also a female graduate of WMU's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences there to be another supporter in your engineering journey.

Society of Women Engineers
Another resource for women in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at WMU is the the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) registered student organization. Joining SWE provides a great opportunity to build connections with students in all different engineering and applied sciences majors. SWE is a not-for- profit educational and service organization that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering, and to be recognized for their life-changing contributions as engineers and leaders. Additionally, SWE members are eligible for a wide range of scholarships provided by the national chapter to pursue your engineering goals.
How to join the society
You can join the Society of Women Engineers through both local and national chapters. Join the local chapter at no cost and the national chapter with a small annual fee. If you are interested SWE membership, come to the next meeting or feel free to email @email with your interest in joining. All meetings dates and times are announced at the beginning of the fall semester or visit to find the most recent meeting schedule.
National and Regional Conference
The SWE national and regional conferences are one of the most helpful events to attend. At the conferences students can attend information sessions, meet representatives, and experience a career fair that hosts interviews for various jobs, co-ops, and internships.
