Research and Innovation Digital Newsletter October 2021
DEAR COLLEAGUES
In this edition of the ORI newsletter, please note the workshops that we will have regarding the rollout of Cayuse. There will be a Discovery Acceleration Workshop on Cayuse for proposal submissions on Monday, Oct. 25. Please take this opportunity to learn about our new systems.
I want to get to know about the research that you do. Please invite me to your lab or research space so that I may learn about the exciting work that you do. The best way to get on my calendar is to contact Kelli Bond. She will assist you in getting time scheduled with me.
I look forward to the opportunity to learn more about the breadth of research performed at WMU.
Regards,
Steven M. Carr, Ph.D.
Interim Vice President for Research and Innovation

Post-graduate research funding available
The Innovation Partnerships Talent Network (T3N) was created in 2012 to enhance the early-phase commercialization of university-developed technology with talent programs and resources. It is supported by funding from the ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ Economic Development Corporation, the statewide economic development organization for ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§, and matched by each participating university.
Talent resources funded by T3N include the University Post-Graduate Fellowships. This fellowship provides funds to help post-graduate students work on technology or startup development and commercialization, increasing the chances for a license or startup in ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ and a potential employment opportunity for the post-graduate. Contact Dr. Steven J. Weber for more information.

WMUx OLLI Teaching Fellow program announced
WMUx, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the Graduate College announced a professional development opportunity for doctoral students. This opportunity includes working with the WMUx Office of Faculty Development and WMUx instructional designers to propose a short course up to four sessions on a topic related to their research that will be delivered during the spring 2022 semester as part of the OLLI curriculum.
OLLI affords community members age 55 and older the chance to attend University-oriented enrichment courses on a wide variety of topics. Doctoral students must apply online by Friday, Oct. 29. Those selected to participate will attend orientation and lesson-planning workshops via WebEx in late November or early December.
In spring 2022, participants will edit their lesson plans with assistance from WMUx, practice their delivery and offer the course sometime between March and July 2022. Doctoral student participants will be able to use their WMUx OLLI Teaching Fellow experience as the basis for a Signature designation on their transcript and will receive a $300 award to be used for course, research or travel expenses. Email Dr. Gwen Tarbox, director of the WMUx Office of Faculty Development, with questions.
