The Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences office is typically open to walk-in visitors Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Dinosaur Park, located outdoors adjacent to Rood Hall, is always free and open to the public. The Schmaltz Geology Museum, located on the first floor of Rood Hall, is also free and open to the public whenever the building is open. If you are visiting Dino Park or the museum, please park in designated visitor lots if you do not have a WMU parking permit.
Summer (May - August) 2024 building hours for Rood Hall are generally M-F, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

- — Western ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ University will receive a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to continue improving ways to capture and store carbon dioxide. The grant is a slice of a $44.5 million project aimed at advancing commercial scale carbon capture, pulling carbon dioxide from the air to lower the greenhouse gas effect and slow down the rate of climate change.
- We are delighted to welcome Sara Pearson as the next Director of the ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ Geological Survey, starting on July 1, 2024. Sara will succeed John Yellich, who joined the Survey in 2013 and laid the groundwork to acquire funding and support that led to our currently fully operational, vibrant, and thriving Survey. - Congratulations to Dr. Mohamed Sultan, who was recently awarded the 2023 Kuwait Prize for Research in Applied Science.
