Varsity Esports

Can a student tryout for a team without being a current WMU student?

No. Varsity teams are only open to WMU students.

Are there different teams for each game or is there one team that tries their hand at all games?

The Esports program has teams dedicated to each game in our portfolio. Some players could possibly cross over and play multiple games on different teams. Each team could also have players make up different teams for each game.

Do varsity players need to have a minimum GPA?

Yes. Students must maintain a 2.25 GPA.

Can I watch the varsity competitions?

Yes, you can watch our competitions in-person at the arena or online.

How do I tryout for one of the varsity teams?

Varsity tryouts are held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Visit our tryout registration form to sign-up and view the schedule.

General Esports Information

How do I get involved with the Esports program if I am not interested in competing?

The WMU Esports program has a variety of opportunities to get involved outside of competing. Event production is a huge component of the program and includes such things as:

Broadcasting
Replay Technician
Officiating
Commentary
Lighting
Facility Management

What are the arena's hours of operation for general use?

Open play is available every Friday at the WMU Esports Arena from 7 to 11 p.m. For other hours and and event information, follow us on social media.

Are tours available of the arena?

Yes. Tours are available by appointment by contacting Tavian Napier, Assistant Director for Esports & Arena.
