Upping his professional game: Digital marketing student interns with FOX Sports
KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擶estern 九一麻豆制片厂 University digital marketing student Alex Wojdylak spent his summer in sunny Los Angeles, taking his first big step toward his goal of creating professional content. The senior is pursuing his passion with the help of resources at the Haworth College of Business.
Wojdylak says he's excited for the world of digital marketing that lies ahead of him. 鈥淲hat I鈥檓 most looking forward to is the ability to always learn more and improve my skills,鈥 he says. 鈥淲hether that鈥檚 learning a new software or improving my ability to talk to clients or peers in my field, the digital marketing world provides a plethora of opportunities.鈥
This past summer, Wojdylak had the ability to see the digital marketing field firsthand through his internship at FOX Sports. Working as a sports screening intern, he had the chance to create various types of media. With a love for both sports and digital video editing, Wojdylak was more than up for the job. During his time at FOX Sports, he gained experience producing a variety of content, including short- and long-form videos, game highlights and unique thumbnails.
Prior to his time at FOX Sports, Wojdylak spent over a year as an intern for the WMU Student Affairs marketing team. During his time there, he managed the office's Instagram and TikTok accounts, created graphics in Adobe Photoshop and used Adobe Premiere Pro to create videos for the University鈥檚 social media accounts. His work at WMU helped him gain the skills he needed for his internship at FOX Sports, ultimately leading him to find a place where he is doing work he is passionate about.
Having accomplished so much during his internship this summer, Wojdylak shares how his education as a business student prepared him.
鈥淢y communication and networking skills have improved. Since coming to WMU, I鈥檝e participated in a handful of projects that have me talking in front of others and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone to better myself,鈥 he says. 鈥淲ith networking, the more people you talk to, the more your confidence levels increase鈥攁nd you build new connections in the process of honing your skills.鈥
For Wojdylak, being involved as a digital marketing student extends beyond the classroom. Drawing on resources such as the Zhang Career Center has changed the professional game for him, he says. 鈥淚 came into the college with a resume that was sub-par and could have used a few more experiences and more proofreading. Over time, I completed more courses, took on professional experiences and received feedback on my resume so that it became something I could be proud of and represented me well.鈥
During his time at WMU, Wojdylak adds he has had new experiences that have helped him grow professionally and personally.
鈥淲hen we鈥檙e in a situation that challenges us, that鈥檚 when we grow. Whether it be taking a class, making new friends, or working to get better at a different hobby, push yourself because you never know where it could take you,鈥 he says.
After graduation, Wojdylak is planning to continue working for FOX Sports. He hopes to move out west to be with his team full-time in Los Angeles, soaking up the sun and creating engaging media.
