From the Eras Tour to embracing identity, WMU Haworth student thrives this summer
KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥Jasmine Vicencio, from New Baltimore, 九一麻豆制片厂, is a business student putting her authentic self forward at Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University. A senior majoring in marketing and member of the dean鈥檚 list, Vicencio has gained confidence and determination about her path in life through some defining professional opportunities.
鈥淢y most rewarding professional experience as a student has been landing an internship with Ticketmaster, where I鈥檝e had the incredible opportunity to work alongside the NFL. Working with Ticketmaster has not only deepened my understanding of brand promotion, customer engagement, and event management, but has also given me the chance to collaborate with industry professionals and contribute to high-profile events,鈥 she says.
Vicencio鈥檚 current position as a client professional sports league intern with Ticketmaster has given her the ability to directly apply what she has learned at WMU Haworth in unforgettable ways.
鈥淎s a marketing student, this internship has been incredibly relevant to my major. Notably, I was part of Ticketmaster鈥檚 event staff for both nights of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour in Detroit. This hands-on experience in event marketing, ticketing operations and exceptional customer service has honed my skills in delivering memorable experiences.鈥
In addition to her internship, she also holds a full-time position as a virtual sales advisor at Best Buy. Vicencio prides herself on using her understanding of consumer behavior to guide customers through Best Buy鈥檚 product offerings, contributing to the overall customer experience and building brand loyalty鈥攁ptitude she gained from major courses at WMU Haworth.
Something else Vicencio is proud of? Being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. 鈥淎s a WMU business student who identifies as LGBTQIA+, the most important lesson I've learned is the power of inclusivity. Recognizing and embracing diversity not only promotes a more equitable society but also fuels creativity and drives success in the business world.鈥
While many students are fulfilling internships or otherwise off campus during Pride Month in June, Vicencio included, it鈥檚 an important time to remember that embracing and celebrating your own identity can empower you in many roles.
鈥淧ride Month serves as a time to embrace my authentic self and connect with the LGBTQIA+ community. As a student who is out, this month is not only a celebration but a powerful reminder of the progress, resilience and ongoing fight for LGBTQIA+ rights and visibility.鈥
She also has sincere advice for other WMU students who can relate to her story. 鈥淩emember, your college experience is about personal growth, exploration and creating lasting memories. Embracing your LGBTQIA+ identity, engaging with supportive individuals and joining campus communities at WMU will enhance your journey and allow you to make the most of your time in college. Be proud of who you are, seek connections and actively contribute to making WMU an inclusive and empowering environment for all students!鈥
