Registration open for summer Chinese culture classes
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Registrations are due Wednesday, May 1, for summer Chinese culture courses offered by the Confucius Institute at Western ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ University.
The five-week, low-cost courses are taught in English and begin the week of Monday, May 6. A half-price tuition discount is offered to WMU students and those age 55 and older. All ages are welcome to enroll. WMU employees only pay the $25 registration fee plus material fee (if applicable), no other tuition.
Full refunds will be given for classes dropped before they meet the second time and a 50% discount will be given for classes dropped before they meet the fourth time. No refunds will be available after that.
The Confucius Institute at WMU is a nonprofit organization designed to bring an authentic Chinese perspective to WMU and the Kalamazoo area. The institute offers culture classes during WMU's fall and spring semesters as well as the University's summer I session.
Summer 2019
All classes are held on WMU's Main Campus in Kalamazoo and taught for personal enrichment rather than academic credit.
Chinese Language Class—5:30 to 7 p.m., Mondays, May 6 to June 10, 4310 Sangren Hall.
Taichi—5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesdays, May 7 to June 11, Bernhard Center Global Lounge.
Advanced Chinese Language—5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesdays, May 7 to June 11, 4510 Sangren Hall.
Basic Chinese Language—5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays, May 8 to June 12, 4310 Sangren Hall.
Chinese Handcraft—5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursdays, May 9 to June 13, 4530 Sangren Hall.
Intermediate Chinese Language—5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursdays, May 9 to June 13, 4715 Sangren Hall.
Confucius Institute at WMU
Established on July 7, 2009, the Confucius Institute at Western ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ University was created through a partnership between WMU and Beijing Language and Culture University.
It is the fourth such institution in ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ and the 61st to be founded in the United States. The Confucius Institute at WMU provides new Chinese language and cultural studies options for WMU students and faculty and dramatically expands international opportunities for regional K-12 schools and local businesses.
