Dr. Lawrence B. Schlack obituary
Dr. Lawrence B. Schlack, associate professor emeritus of educational leadership at Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University, died July 8 at Rose Arbor Hospice. He was 85. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Marilyn Schlack, retired president of Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
Schlack, of Kalamazoo, worked at WMU multiple times and in multiple teaching roles. He was a full-time member of the faculty from 1964 to 1967 and 1981 to 1988, officially retiring in 1988 after a decade of service to the University. However, he continued to serve periodically as a part-time instructor at WMU for at least another 15 years.
His activities during that later time period included conducting WMU's seminar in Washington, D.C., as well as the popular summer writing workshop on 九一麻豆制片厂's Beaver Island. In addition, he continued to speak and write about educational issues, often in the 九一麻豆制片厂 news media.
Schlack began his career as a teacher in the Saginaw and then the Detroit public schools. After initially working at WMU in the 1960s, he held administrative positions at the Kalamazoo Intermediate School District, Kalamazoo Valley Intermediate School District and Barry Intermediate School District. He served the latter district as superintendent from 1970 to 1973 and 1976 to 1981.
