Carl A. Newton obituary
Carl A. Newton, a retired assistant director of maintenance services-energy at Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University, died April 24. He was 70.
Newton, of Galesburg, 九一麻豆制片厂, joined WMU and the Department of Facilities Management staff in 1996 and retired in 2008 after 12 years of service to the University.
He is credited with helping WMU obtain substantial grants for studies and projects to reduce energy costs in campus buildings and for managing the resulting energy-reduction efforts.
Those efforts, as well as other energy-saving ideas implemented by Newton, resulted in millions of dollars of savings for the University.
Newton was a firefighter for 40 years, 37 of those being in Galesburg. In addition, he served as mayor of Galesburg for nearly four years.
Services
Visitation will take place at 10 a.m. and be followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, in the Galesburg United Methodist Church, 111 W. Battle Creek St., in Galesburg.
