Professor named president-elect of accounting society
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Dr. James Penner, a Western ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ University associate professor of accountancy, has been named program chair and president-elect of the North American Accounting Society.
Penner will serve as president during the 2018-19 academic year.
Penner
Penner is a certified public accountant in the state of ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ and was previously employed at the Detroit office of Ernest & Young before joining academia. He earned his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech and his bachelor's and master's degrees at ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ State University. Penner's research interests include capital market effects of financial reporting and the impact of media on capital markets, and his teaching interest is financial accounting.
North American Accounting Society
The NAAS is a nonprofit organization that supports the development and recognition of individual efforts in the field of accounting. The organization's objectives are to promote the association of accounting professionals; to provide programs aimed at improvement of teaching, research and writing by allowing application and exchange of accounting related ideas; to provide a forum for the publication of the results of research and writing in the field of accounting, and to provide discussion and information exchange concerning ongoing research activity.
