Guest artist recital features southern California jazz pianist

Jazz pianist Josh Nelson will perform on campus at a free recital.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擲outhern California pianist, composer and bandleader Josh Nelson will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, in Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University鈥檚 Dalton Center Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Nelson has performed with some of the most respected names in jazz, including Kurt Elling, John Pizzarelli, Benny Golson, Sheila Jordan, John Clayton, George Mraz, Jeff Hamilton, Dave Koz, Joe Chambers and Peter Erskine. Appearing for one night in Kalamazoo, he鈥檒l be joined by WMU faculty members Scott Cowan, Andrew Rathbun, Greg Jasperse and Keith Hall and WMU student Matt Epperson.

鈥淛osh is that rare young musician who has not only a wealth of study and experience under his belt鈥攁ll but assuring him a prominent place in jazz music鈥攂ut he also possesses those rarest of musical attributes: a touch, a tone and a 鈥榮ound鈥 that are all identifiably his own,鈥 says Erskine, a legendary drummer.
