San Diego State scholar to address piecemeal immigration in Sichel talk

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擜 scholar from San Diego State University will address the consequences of a piecemeal approach to immigration when she speaks in early April at Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University as part of the Werner Sichel Lecture Series.

Dr. Catalina Amuedo-Dorantes will offer a free, public talk, "On the Implications of a Piecemeal Approach to Immigration Policy and Enforcement," at noon Wednesday, April 5, in 2028 Brown Hall. A light lunch reception will be available after the lecture. A WMU alumna, Amuedo-Dorantes is chair and professor of the SDSU Department of Economics.

Amuedo-Dorantes

Amuedo-Dorantes is a research fellow at the Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration, the IZA Institute of Labor Economics and FEDEA, an organization that publishes research on economics and social issues. She also is an advisory committee member of the Americas Center Advisory Council at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and the 2013-14 recipient of the Garcia-Robles Border Fulbright.

She is past president-elect of the American Society of Hispanic Economists. Her areas of interest include international migration, remittances and, more broadly, labor economics. She has published on contingent work contracts, the informal work sector, immigrant savings, international remittances, immigration policy and immigrant health care. Her work has been funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, among others.

Sichel Lecture Series

The theme for this year's Werner Sichel Lecture Series is "Immigration Policy Today." The series is organized by the WMU Department of Economics and named in honor of Werner Sichel, a longtime WMU economics professor and former department chair, who retired in 2004. The series is cosponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and the W. E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research. The lectures are open to the public and formatted with the general public in mind.

This year's series is being organized by Dr. Susan Pozo, WMU professor of economics.
