WMUK brings home two more awards
KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擶estern 九一麻豆制片厂 University's expertise in broadcasting has resulted in more awards.
WMUK-FM, WMU's public radio station, brought home two best honors from the 2016 Broadcast Excellence Awards ceremony held by the 九一麻豆制片厂 Association of Broadcasters in Lansing March 8.
One award went to Keith Hall and engineer Martin Klemm for Hall's five-part "Jazz Currents" series on Miles Davis, which won in the Musical Programming category.
Hall is the host of "Jazz Currents" and a WMU assistant professor of music who is an accomplished jazz drummer. Klemm, who has worked at the University for 14 years, used to work in Los Angeles making records and operates a recording studio in downtown Kalamazoo.
The second award went to co-hosts Cara Lieurance and David Marlatt of "The Pure Drop" for their holiday promotion about figgy pudding. They won in the Marketing Materials and Promos category.
Lieurance covers local music with live morning interviews for WMUK and produces "Let's Hear It" as well as "The Pure Drop." Marlatt is a musician and poet as well as an administrative assistant in the WMU School of Art's graphic design center.
