String ensemble joins folk trio at Dalton Center

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擳he Kontras Quartet returns to the Bullock Music Performance Institute at Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University with folk trio the Kruger Brothers at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall.

The performance will be preceded by a 7 p.m. discussion hosted by Dr. Robert White. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors and $5 for students, and are available from Miller Auditorium or by calling (269) 387-2300 or (800) 228-9858.

The Kontras Quartet and the Kruger Brothers

Kontras means contrasts in the Afrikaans language鈥攆itting for a string ensemble whose colorful repertoire spans centuries, genres and continents. Their collaboration with the Kruger Brothers bridges the line between classical music and American folk while drawing on diverse musical traditions to create original, exciting, inspiring performances that speak to people from around the world. The Kruger Brothers were recently back in the studio with the Kontras Quartet to record their newest collaboration, "The Roan Mountain Suite," which is due out on CD later this spring.

Bullock Music Performance Institute

Established in the fall of 1985 and renamed in 1988 in honor of its founder, the Bullock Music Performance Institute's mission is to add to the already rich cultural life of Kalamazoo by creating opportunities to develop closer personal and artistic ties between audience and performer. The institute has presented events ranging from formal evening concerts to daytime educational outreach events for students and local audiences of all ages.
