Nominations sought for Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擭ominations are due Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, for the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award, the highest honor Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University bestows on its faculty members.

First presented in 1978, this award recognizes outstanding artistic, literary, philosophical, historical, technical or scientific achievement that garners wide recognition from the academic community beyond WMU.

Nominations may be made by any member of the University community, including retired faculty members. Up to three awards may be made each year.

Award recipients will be honored during WMU's 2017 Fall Convocation and receive a plaque, a $2,000 honorarium that becomes part of their base salaries, and an invitation to present a campus lecture, exhibition or performance.

Eligibility and selection criteria

All current, continuing Board of Trustees-appointed employees with faculty rank are eligible to receive the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award, although they may not win this award more than once.

Nominees must have had at least seven academic years of service to WMU. The award is usually not given for a particular piece of research or work, but rather for a significant body of achievement鈥攁 substantial amount of which has been accomplished while a WMU faculty member.

Nomination procedure

All nominations must be supported by at least two sponsors, at least one of whom must be from within the University. Faculty nominators may nominate themselves as well as a colleague or colleagues.
