Faculty artists Ratner and Sims offer free recital

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擶estern 九一麻豆制片厂 University School of Music faculty artists, baritone Carl Ratner and pianist Lori Sims, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. Admission is free.

The program consists of three important song cycles featuring poetry about dreams, memories, and delusions: Robert Schumann's beloved "Dichterliebe" with texts by Heinrich Heine, Maurice Ravel's "Don Quichotte 脿 Dulcin茅e" with texts by Paul Morand, and "Old Addresses" by William Bolcom featuring texts by seven different poets including Langston Hughes, Cavafy, Ezra Pound, and Bolcom's longtime collaborator, Arnold Weinstein.

Lori Sims and Carl Ratner have jointly presented performances of other works by Schumann and Bolcom on recitals in Chicago and Kalamazoo. They collaborated with fellow faculty artist Renata Artman Knific in a tribute to Bolcom on the Jewel Box Series at Northeastern Illinois University. Sims and Knific have recorded a CD of Bolcom's works for piano and violin.
