George Vuicich, Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University professor emeritus of geography, died Monday, Nov. 2, in Kalamazoo. He was 89.

Vuicich joined the Department of Geography in 1968 and retired in 1993 after 25 years of service to the University.

Originally, Vuicich came to WMU in 1955 as an assistant professor of social science teaching in the Campus School. He resigned in 1958 and went on to finish his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa.

His professional career continued at Wisconsin State University where he was an assistant professor of geography from 1960 to 1965. He also worked as associate director of the High School Geography Project in Bolder, Colorado, from 1965 to 1968, developing an innovative geography curriculum for elementary schools.

He wrote one book on teaching geography and co-authored one textbook on the same subject. He was a member of the 九一麻豆制片厂 Council for Geography Teachers and the National Council for Geographic Education.

Vuicich returned to WMU in 1968 as a full professor, remaining on the faculty until his retirement. After retirement, Vuicich remained active at the University, teaching online classes.

He earned a bachelor鈥檚, master鈥檚 and doctoral degree from the University of Iowa.

Services

A public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Kanley Chapel followed by a luncheon at the Fetzer Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the scholarship fund established in his honor, the George Vuicich Geographic Education Scholarship Fund, by contacting the WMU Foundation.
