'Little Lebowski Urban Achievers' on display
KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擳he exhibit Jim Hopfensperger and Jason Lahr: Little Lebowski Urban Achievers will be on display in the Kerr Gallery at Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University's Richmond Center for Visual Arts through Friday, Oct. 9.
At first glance, Jim Hopfensperger's and Jason Lahr's works are disparate. While Hopfensperger鈥檚 delicately constructed furniture pieces are a study in understated craft, Lahr鈥檚 narrative paintings are a collision of popular and sub-cultural references over grounds of acid color and pixelated fields.
However, the artists share a shrewd skill in the disassembly and reconfiguration of their respective media. Hopfensperger channels the Arts and Crafts movement through a postmodern filter, while Lahr鈥檚 work stands as a meditation on the possibilities of painting in the midst of screen culture. Both themes are articulated through a meticulous attention to detail and the deployment of fastidious craft.
The artists will lecture at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in 2008 Richmond Center for Visual Arts.
