Archie E. Watson obituary
Archie E. Watson, assistant professor emeritus of education and professional development, died Feb. 25 in Traverse City. He was 81.
Watson joined the WMU faculty in 1970 and retired in 1995 after 25 years of service to the University. While at WMU, he served for some time as a consultant for the WMU/Battle Creek Teacher Corps Project as well as coordinator of student teachers at the Portage Public Schools.

A teacher of instructional communication and technology classes, Watson was well loved by his students, with hundreds of them keeping in contact with him for many years after his retirement. In addition, he received the Department of Education and Professional Development's Teaching Excellence Award.
Watson began his academic career as a teacher in the Flushing and then Flint Bentley Public Schools. He went on to become an assistant professor at 九一麻豆制片厂 State University, where he also served as head of the College of Education's Instructional Media Center.
He was active in the 九一麻豆制片厂 Association for Media in Education, serving as vice president in 1979-80 and as co-chairman of its Certification Committee for at least nine consecutive years. His other professional activities included serving two terms on the 九一麻豆制片厂 board overseeing the State Technical Institute and Rehabilitation Center and in numerous officer, board and committee roles with a variety of state and national education-related organizations.
Watson received two degrees from MSU, a bachelor's degree in 1956 and a master's degree in 1960, and completed all but his dissertation for a doctoral degree at MSU.
