Award-winning poet to visit WMU for Gwen Frostic Reading Series

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擜 poet who has won numerous awards for his writing will visit the Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University campus to take part in the Fall 2014 Gwen Frostic Reading Series.

Ralph Angel will read from his works at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in The Little Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.

Angel's latest collection, "Your Moon," was awarded the 2013 Green Rose Poetry Prize by WMU's New Issues Poetry & Prose, while his "Exceptions and Melancholies: Poems 1986-2006" received the 2007 PEN Center USA Poetry Award. Another award, the James Laughlin Award of the Academy of American Poets, was bestowed on his collection "Neither World."

In addition to five books of poetry, Angel has published an award-winning translation of the Federico Garcia Lorca poem, "Poem of the Deep Song." Angel is the recipient of numerous honors, including a Pushcart Prize, a Gertrude Stein Award, the Willis Barnstone Translation Prize, a Fulbright Foundation Fellowship and the Bess Hokin Prize of the Modern Poetry Association.

Angel lives in Los Angeles and is the Edith R. White Distinguished Professor at the University of Redlands and a member of the master's in fine arts in writing faculty at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
