Brooklyn artist, writer visiting WMU for Frostic School of Art Series

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擜 Brooklyn, New York-based artist, writer, translator and professor will visit the Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University campus to take part in the Frostic School of Art's Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture Series.

Paul D'Agostino will speak at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in Room 2008 of the Richmond Center for Visual Arts. The Richmond Center is staging the series of lectures in conjunction with its exhibition schedule in support of the thematic approach to its calendar of events.

Living in Bushwick, Brooklyn, where he has been curating art exhibits since 2008, D'Agostino holds a doctoral degree in Italian literature and is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at City University of New York, Brooklyn College, where he also works in the art department as a writing advisor.

D'Agostino writes in and translates among a number of languages, primarily Italian, German, French, Spanish and English. He is art Editor at The L Magazine, assistant editor of Journal of Italian Translation and co-founder of a blog devoted to art writing, After Vasari. His academic writings have appeared in many scholarly publications in the United States and abroad, and his poetry and prose have been published in several different Brooklyn-based literary magazines.

D'Agostino's mixed-media, mixed aesthetic, variably language-based artworks have been featured in many group exhibitions in the United States and abroad. His 2012 solo exhibition at Norte Maar Gallery, "Appearance Adrift in the Garden," was accompanied by "Bodies, Voids and a Tale of Seas," a limited edition chapbook of the artist's original writings in five languages. His second solo exhibition, "Twilit Ensembles," was at Pocket Utopia Gallery in Manhattan in spring 2013. D'Agostino's art has been reviewed or featured in a number of publications, including ARTNews, Art Review, The New York Times and The New Criterion, among others. His artwork was reviewed as a Critic's Pick in the February 2014 issue of ARTNews. His work is on display at the Richmond Center in the exhibition "Your Place or Mine," curated by Kate Teale.
