Broadway producer picks WMU theatre student's song for contest
KALAMAZOO鈥擜 Tony Award-winning Broadway producer has chosen a Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University theatre student's original song as a finalist for his songwriting contest.
Ken Davenport, known for his productions of "Kinky Boots," "Avenue Q," "Godspell," "Macbeth" and "Altar Boyz," has chosen the song "Scared of Falling" by theatre student Kevin J. Watson II for his Davenport Songwriting Contest.
"Scared of Falling" is from Watson's original musical, "Enough," written with fellow theatre student Nathan Sabo. Watson wrote the music and Sabo wrote the book for the musical. Both students are from Darien, Ill.
The competition
Watson will perform "Scared of Falling" Thursday, Jan. 30, in New York City for a live audience and celebrity judges that include Ryan Scott Oliver and Natalie Weiss. There were only 10 songs selected to compete for the $500 cash prize and most were written by New York composers.
