Mansberger takes the reins of WMU academic collective bargaining

KALAMAZOO鈥擜 longtime faculty member with a research background in the areas of school reform and leadership has been named Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University's new director of academic collective bargaining.

Dr. Nancy B. Mansberger, associate professor in the College of Education and Human Development, assumed her new role, effective Jan. 1. Her appointment was made pending approval from the WMU Board of Trustees.

"Nancy Mansberger has an extraordinarily deep and broad understanding of the University as a whole and a deep knowledge of the myriad roles faculty members play in the classroom, research lab and in community and campus service," said Dr. Timothy Greene, provost and vice president for academic affairs. "She will bring a unique background and rich perspective to this role."

A faculty member since 2002, Mansberger was an active research professional at WMU for much of the dozen years before she joined the faculty ranks. She also was a public school music teacher during that period. She has played important research roles with WMU's Evaluation Center, the Merze Tate Research Center, the Science and Mathematics Program Improvement effort, the Center for Research on At-Risk Students and as a public school coordinator for the GEAR UP federally funded initiative based at WMU.

Her campus service background also includes stints in leadership positions with the WMU chapter of the American Association of University Professors. She served as vice president of the chapter for 2011-12 and before that was a grievance officer for three years.

She is a three-time WMU alumna who earned her bachelor's degree in music in 1979, a master's degree in music in 1988 and a doctoral degree in educational leadership in 2002. She has additional graduate experience in educational statistics and evaluation, measurement and research.
