Faculty celebrate School of Music anniversary with concert

The School of Music has several events planned to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

KALAMAZOO鈥擲everal faculty members of Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University鈥檚 School of Music will perform a recital of Russian chamber music at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public, and a reception will immediately follow the performance. The concert is part of a series of events celebrating the School of Music鈥檚 100th anniversary.

Professor of piano Lori Sims and Raymond Harvey, music director of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, will perform a composition for two pianos by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Other performers include assistant professor of voice Karen Kness, soprano; professor of voice Carl Ratner, baritone; and professor of viola Igor Fedotov. Works being performed include songs from Piotr Tchaikovsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Nicolas Medtner, as well as Shostakovich鈥檚 Sonata for Viola and Piano, Opus 147.

A second recital of chamber music by faculty members will take place Sunday, Oct. 20.
