Literacy tutoring begins Sept. 27.

KALAMAZOO鈥擜fter-school literacy tutoring is available for students in kindergarten through eighth grade at the McGinnis Reading Center and Clinic at Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University.

Fall 2012 literacy tutoring

Tutoring will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. every Thursday, Sept. 27 through Dec. 6, in Room 4511 of Sangren Hall. There is no session Nov. 22.

The program will extend students' knowledge and expertise in reading, writing and critical literacy skills with print and electronic texts. Each student will receive individualized assessments and carefully planned instruction from tutors working toward their graduate and undergraduate teaching degrees. Students will learn new literacy skills and apply them during project-based learning. The reading clinic's evidence-based approaches improve students' confidence, literacy skills and appreciation for lifelong learning.

The fee is $215 per student. Children of WMU students, faculty and staff receive a 10 percent discount, and financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Enrollment is limited, so interested parties are encouraged to register early.
