Carol L. Stamm obituary
Dr. Carol L. Stamm, a retired Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University administrator, died April 15. She was 67.
Stamm, associate vice president for academic affairs and professor emeritus of management, joined the WMU faculty in 1981 and retired in 2001 after more than 19 years of service to the University.
She began her WMU teaching career as a member of the Department of Management faculty and went on to hold a variety of administrative posts.
Stamm was named chair of the management department in 1988 and executive assistant to the provost in early 1992. She was appointed assistant vice president for academic affairs seven months later and promoted to associate vice president for academic affairs in 1993. She also served as acting admissions director from 1996 to 1997.
While at WMU, Stamm was active on a variety of department, college and University councils, committees and task forces. She was characterized as an outstanding teacher and played a leadership role in the development of the statistics program required of all business students.
Stamm earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and mathematics from Berea College, a master's degree in physical education from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Business Administration from WMU and a doctoral degree in physical education, assessment from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
She taught physical education at the University of Iowa and UW and initially gained scholarly recognition for her measurement and evaluation research in the areas of physical education and human performance. Her management-related research at WMU focused on topics such as operations research, work force management and the just-in-time inventory approach to running a business.
Stamm was elected a Research Consortium Fellow of the American Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and was a member of professional organizations including the Academy of Management, Midwest Academy of Management and Institute of Management Sciences.
She also served for many years as a reviewer for the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, constructed measures for the physical education section of the National Teachers Examination for the Educational Testing Service, and served in leadership roles with physical education organizations such as the National Association of Sport and Physical Education.
Services
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13, on campus in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. A reception will follow the service.
