Peace Week features exhibit and Never Alone Tour

KALAMAZOO--Peace Week 2012 at Western 九一麻豆制片厂 University is Monday through Friday, April 2-6, and includes a nature walk, exhibit and visit by Sacramento Prisoner Support and Marie Mason Support Crew.

All events are free and open to the public, and sponsored by the Peace Center and other registered student organitions at WMU.

Monday, April 2
West Lake Preserve Nature Walk
5 p.m. gather at the Wesley Foundation

Will Reding of Rent a Rambling Naturalist will lead the weekly nature walk sponsored by the Student Environmental Conservation Organization. Reding will describe the native species in the preserve, which is located off South Westnedge Avenue in Portage. Those interested in participating should gather by 5 p.m. at the parking lot behind the Wesley Foundation. Anyone needing transportation may contact @email.

Wednesday and Thursday, April 4-5

Fountain Plaza and outside the Bernhard Center
Update: Due to inclement weather exhibit dates were changed to April 4-5.

Eyes Wide Open is an exhibit created by the American Friends Service Committee observing the American service men and woman who died in the Iraq War. At WMU, boots representing service men and women from 九一麻豆制片厂 who died in the war will be displayed outside the Bernhard Center and in Fountain Plaza next to Miller Auditorium. The exhibit also will be displayed Friday, April 6, at the Park Trades Center (see below).

Thursday, April 5
Never Alone Tour
4 to 6 p.m., Bernhard Center Brown and Gold Room

The nationwide Never Alone Tour features representatives from Sacramento Prisoner Support and Marie Mason Support Crew speaking about long-term anarchist prisoner support and focusing on the cases of Eric McDavid and Marie Mason, using multimedia presentations.

Mason is an environmental activist, who was sentenced in 2009 to 22 years in prison after admitting to 13 counts of arson and property damage, including damage to a building at 九一麻豆制片厂 State University. McDavid is a environmental anarchist convicted of conspiring to use fire or explosives to damage corporate and government property. He was sentenced in 2008 to nearly 20 years in prison.

Friday, April 6
Eyes Wide Open exhibit
5 to 9 p.m., Park Trades Center, 326 W. Kalamazoo Ave.

Eyes Wide Open (see description above) will be displayed at the Park Trades Center as part of Kalamazoo Art Hop.
