Libraries awards two ‘KARE’ awards to library employees
The University Libraries recognized two library employees for outstanding customer service to the Western һ鶹Ƭ University community. Cherise Fox and Dr. Kate Langan received KARE awards, a peer-nominated award that recognizes knowledgeable, accessible, responsive and empathetic customer service.
Cherise Fox, coordinator, user services
As a coordinator in our User Services department, Cherise Fox works with students and faculty, helping access research in our libraries and beyond.
“I enjoy being part of creating a welcoming environment for all library users,” Fox says. “Whether I’m working at the service desk or behind the scenes, I strive to help foster a sense of community that encourages library users to make the most of what the library has to offer.”
Fox’s flexibility, creative solutions and positive approach to customer service are just a few reasons she received a KARE award this year.
“I believe libraries play a crucial role in enhancing the student experience by providing inclusive spaces for learning, collaboration and access to resources,” Fox adds. “It also functions as a hub for various services that support academic and personal growth. I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Dr. Kate Langan, professor and engagement librarian
Dr. Kate Langan has excelled at building programming and activities that engage students in learning and discovery at the University Libraries. From first-year experience sessions to art breaks and study communities, Langan creates a welcoming and enriching space for students.
“Baseline, I love working at the University and supporting students, like connecting them to information, people, or services in the library,” Langan says. “What I love most is watching students when they have what I call their aha moment—that spark when they realize this space is for them and we are here for them. It is the best feeling.”
Langan’s work to create engaging, welcoming and supportive learning environments showcases how our customer service values extend into all areas of the Libraries.
“An outstanding experience for [students] is letting them know this place, the people, the services, the spaces, it is all for them. Making sure students have an outstanding experience is what drives us.”
