Graduate test
This program does not require a graduate test.
Note: International applicants may have to provide evidence of English language proficiency. More information can be found within the online application.
Recommendations
Two letters of recommendation are required from persons with a knowledge of the applicant's professional and academic skills or potential for success in the certificate program. The recommendations should attest to the congruency of the applicant's educational and employment goals as they relate to the department description. Please send email requests for such recommendations from within the online system.
Written statement
Please prepare a statement which covers the following information, and attach it within the online application:
On no more than five typewritten, double-spaced pages, write an essay discussing your professional goals. Give attention to work with racial/ethnic minorities and diverse populations throughout your essay. Include information about: a) your reason for wanting to pursue doctoral study; b) your professional goals as they relate to that program; c) an assessment of your personal assets and liabilities; and d) life experiences that might be useful in your work as a helping professional.

Transcript requirement
An official transcript from the institution from which you received your bachelor degree is required, as well as a transcript from the institution(s) where any additional graduate level courses or degrees have been taken/completed. Applicants are not required to submit an official transcript of courses taken/completed at WMU.
Additional information
This option is for individuals who already have a master’s degree in counseling from a CACREP accredited program and are seeking post-master’s degree graduate courses in order to qualify in ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ for: (1) School Counselor K-12 Licenses (no ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ Teaching Certificate required) or (2) Counseling Endorsements (K-12) on an existing current, valid ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ Teaching Certificate. This certificate program is in part, a response to ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ Public Act (P.A.) 288, 2000. This law mandates that candidates must be recommended by sponsoring counselor education institutions and also pass the ¾ÅÒ»Â鶹ÖÆƬ³§ Department of Education Guidance Counselor Examination in order to be licensed or endorsed.
This graduate certificates does not qualify for federal financial aid unless taken in conjunction with a Master's or Doctoral degree program.
