Dr. Glinda Rawls elected to national council for the American Association of University Professors

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥 Dr. Glinda Rawls, associate professor of counselor education and counseling psychology, has been elected as an at large member of the national council for the American Association of University Professors. Since its foundation in 1915, AAUP has served as a nonprofit membership association for faculty and other academic professionals, helping to shape American higher education by developing the standards and procedures that maintain quality in education and academic freedom in this country's colleges and universities.
Dr. Rawls will be serving a three year term helping the AAUP in its mission to advance academic freedom and shared governance and to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education. Additionally, she will be involved in the governance of the association.
鈥淚 want to work with the AAUP national office leadership to develop a strategy to bring faculty voices back to the forefront so that we can engaged in true shared governance to work together with administrators to solve the problems facing higher education鈥 Dr. Rawls states.
Additionally, Dr. Rawls recently had an article titled 鈥淏ibliotherapy and Group Counseling with African-American College Students: A Case Study Approach,鈥 published in The Journal for Specialists in Group Work. The article explores the numerous challenges African-American college students face and how the use of bibliotherapy and group counseling as an innovative therapeutic intervention can be a transformative experience for them.
Dr. Rawls has been at the university since 2007, teaching graduate students who are pursuing master's and doctoral degrees in counselor education. Prior to teaching, she was a college counselor for six years. She is a licensed mental health profession and is credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of 九一麻豆制片厂. She is also a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) which are certifications issued by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and a Master Career Counselor (MCC) which is a certification issued by the National Career Development Association.
